If words are your calling,..then Kaafiya is your abode

For a poet words are where the world begins and then there is no end to them…….to infinity and beyond.......

When words stir
My feelings up
And tears are all that fall
With a reminiscent smile
That beckons the past
I look into the heart of
The poet who penned
Those words so mellifluous
And ask….
“ If her words give life
To a dead part of me
If her words speak
Of the unspoken and the muted me
Aren’t we the same?
Her heart, my breath,
His tears and my words,
Their voice, my lips,
Innumerable voices, One soul
WE, A UNIVERSE.....”

I said what I had to……If these words reach out to you, a spark, a glimmer, a melody, a haiku…..Come, Be part of Delhi’s most fantastic two day festival KAAFIYA…..where poets of all ages, colour and mystical hearts shall dissolve themselves in weaving a yarn of words… 10th and 11th October at India Habitat Centre.

Brushed

The cheeks brushed against
Those salty drops; storms blazing
Inside made a wreck

The eyes slept with night
Sun peeking at lashes
Drying night’s remains

Linking up at haiku horizon:) So glad to be back

The beauty that fails to die

Dear words,
Did you ever know that you would be stringed together
With the last or the middle letter to form a necklace I would love to wear?

Dear music,
Did you ever know that a little tap here and a string there
Would melt my heart and soothe my soul?

Dear capsicum,
Did you ever know how green would look on you
As you wore that colour and carried that crispness to lure me in?

Dear Dark Chocolate,
Did you ever know that you bitterness would glide
And arouse someone even as you would melt in their bodies?

Dear Flowers,
Did you ever know that your petals would add vigour
Joy and hope as lay there dead, bringing someone alive?

Dear water,
Did you know how gracefully you could flow, in reality
And in metaphor, washing away my fears and pain?

Dear love,
Did you ever know the many hearts you would touch in a lifetime
Aching, breaking and uniting forever?

Dear Beauty,
Did you ever know how musical you would sound
As I would utter your being in my whisper?

Blossom

Blossom is the bud
That was once as naïve as a pup

Blossom is that petal
That knows what ‘being held’ means

Blossom is that skin
That feels the magic of an embrace

Blossom is that tea
That lifts up in the mug gifted by you

Blossom is that memory
Where one links up to another

Blossoms and more blossoms
In the earth that grew on the footprints you left behind…….

Rarest of the Rare

Not very often
More so rare
You find a soul
That beckons you to a world
Never seen, touched or heard
Offering possibilities, dreams
With thousand wings at once.

Not very often
Rarely in dreams
You find a presence
As balmy as shade
As nurturing as a well wisher
Kindling a fire of growth
Only to lit a million lamps.

Not very often
Rarely! Oh ! so rarely
You find a being
Whose presence absorbs you
Like enlightenment reaching your heart
And when such rarity comes to life
You bid the past and welcome the new start

Simple is as simple gets....

My blogger friend Leo is back with daily prompts and I'm more than delighted to tag along there, as I terribly missed the Haiku Heights initiative by him. So here are my two poems on the prompt 'simple' :) Let's get the juices flowing.....at A prompt each day

To say that falling love
Is as simple as it can be
Is fooling around
With that caged heart of yours

To say that words written
Are like a feather gliding through silk
Is partial truth
For words often lose their speech

To say that friends last forever
Like the big massive trees
Is a false hope
For trees too wither and die

To say that happiness should be strived
Like the fireflies dancing at night
Is like living in a bubble
For emotions are fluxes

Simple is not as simple gets
Simple loves to become complex
Simple for them, is not simple for you
Simple, a joke, around many and a few
Simple, the smile, radiant in the light
Simple, her wrinkles, which through her skin, slide
Simple, his eyes, small and deep
Simple, his actions, thoughtful and sweet
Simple, the mom’s cooking, for her
Simple, not, but best her food for us
Simple, the care of father for the kids
Simple and loved the blanket in the cold mist

Simple is not simple as simple gets
Simple knows how to be unique
Simple a daily dose
A breeze comforting and at ease

What contentment feels like…..

It feels like the soft blanket warming your body as you sleep yourself with wide smiles, only to wake up tomorrow with more doses of hope.
It feels like the sun shining brighter just to see you succeed in the hardest battle of your life.
It feels like the silence wishes to reach you and if responded wants to be with you.
It feels like all the colours in the world exist just for you.
It feels like the street dog came near you just so he could offer you more love.
It feels like life was always the way it was, just that we never paused.
It feels like some songs were just waiting for your attention so you could hear them on repeat.
It feels life giving you a chance to slow down and savour every single drizzle of it.

DE-(AT)TACHING

Hello Dear Vanilla People:)

Hope you are well. The weather here in Bangalore today is a real treat. With heavens pouring since yesterday and the cool breeze kissing your skin, the nature only makes you feel more loved.

Here's my Haiku :

This time I de-attach
From the sorrows fears and
Free myself in sky

Few more days and I'll be done with this course:)

Wish you a happy week ahead

Before Sunrise

Not many people get to have meaningful conversations these days. Just yesterday I read a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. It said “Great mind discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people”. Ah! Now I get why I have always stayed away from people who gossip and bitch about others. Doesn't it give negative vibes? I won’t say I've never talked about people. Sometimes, it is the difference that makes all the difference.
So yes, my dear, when did you say we were going for a midnight to dawn walk? Ah! I hear the unspoken words, they ring a jingle in this heart of mine. You being an owl won’t find it too difficult. I might need plenty of caffeine to keep me walking through the art, architecture and the conversations. Or maybe, if the fountain of your words keeps pouring in the silence of the cool breeze, I’ll stay amazed and awake, both at the same time. Oh! how I yearn for a day filled with words and a night soaked with the silence of a full moon, the street lights and two hearts absorbing and pondering over words exchanged, with hands not willing to leave each other. Then, who knows as we walk by the lovely Danube, we come across a man who asks for money in exchange of a poem he would write for us. What word would you give him to write the poem with? What? Don’t you look at me, I’ll be the silent one, filling my mind and heart with the wisdom you always offer.

You, dear Love, would be expected to read the eyes and the thoughts, in case my gestures don’t give away to the thoughts I would be thinking. I would take your hand by surprise and glide through the stones of the walkway, doing a ball dance with a music that only my ears would hear. I bet the dance would be a suave one, for your grace would add a touché of giggles and laughter.

The beauty of the Renaissance won’t let me sleep and
The music of the moments shall continue to seep
One conversation leading to another, if you may?
Not a mundane chatter, but lessons to keep.

The silence of the musings would glitter through the stars
Questions after questions, with no answers asked
The swimming of the time across the tides of dark
Into the dawn of hope with rays being basked

Memories amidst the nature
With words to float by
We started there, didn’t we?
That’s where the hearts got tied!

P.S: Do I even need to say that this movie "adds meaning to your life?":) For those who know what I mean and those who might want to watch to know what it means.

Looking Forward to the future

Then I thought, afraid of the ‘un’ that the certainty was
The fears lurked like shadows of the past and future merged
The hope shrank, melted like an ice cream amidst the cold winds
The bon fire shook by the blizzards of terror
The external silence
Disguised the internal chaos
Not a moment of peace
Not a moment of calm
The ravage spoke for itself
And then the notes of tabla were heard
Dissolved amidst violin, sitar and a shehnai
The notes hummed a hope
With lyrics that entered the soul
Like magic I rose
Beckoning the future
To open the wings
Which gained strength in this endurance
The heart, the mind joined hands and head
Embracing that which was there……peace
The lamp became warmer………..hope
The path still has the ‘un’ in the clear
Yet the spring doesn’t looks far away

What kept these words alive in this poem…the song SwadesJ

Happy New Year 2015 pals!

Love~ Aakriti

Stay

“I’m going to do what I want to do. I’m going to be who I really am. And I’m going to figure out what that is”*

In the background the instrumental paino plays with titanic’s theme, and how can it not bring tears, for there’s so much love in those notes. A picture of us hangs to my left in that handmade paper frame. The future stands still but we move in infinite space**. A space where a plenty of lessons have been learnt.; from haggling about money to breathing our own breaths with the rhythms of the nature, the walks, discussions about the extra-ordinary in the so called ‘ordinary’ life, and times where everything was said with not a single word exchanged.

Your words were read by me again. They were fresh as a morning’s dew, giving birth to new feelings and thoughts about the magic of poetry and the charm of melodies. It is with words as with sunbeams. The more they are condensed, the deeper they burn.*** Isn’t it? You always talk of how the ambiguity in your writings allows for everything to be said in a mysterious way. Mystery lures. Reminds me of how the life began, with the forbidden apple being eaten, for it was ‘for-bidden’. I ask, does the banality  of simple texts and proses defies itself? Aren’t they words too? Vocabulary, as much as it has intrigued me, has confused me as well. Vocabulary is like the different stages of life that a language possesses. When spoken, it feels like language feels alive! I heard him say “You write your first draft with your heart, you re write with your head. The key to writing is to write not to think”.**** As I reminisce these words, I smile, for poetic proses demand thinking, yet, not always!
Those were the days when poems were written one after another, like epiphany.
The presents which are gifted to us everyday turn into past the next day. Some remain untouched, unopened, others are opened half-way, only to be rejected for it was not something we were expecting. By the time, we realise, a week of presents goes by, however the gratitude in our heart enables the smallest ones to be seen and opened. I often tell people “ looks are deceptive”, turns our so are ‘presents’. It’s better than not getting one, right?

Thank you for being a part of my present everyday!

'Presents' are sweet, even if bitter,
for they shall be remembered as memories one fine day!:)

YOU

You, in eternity
Would in no way be matched.

You, in your grace and solitude
Define beatitude

You, in your silence and your calm
Gift bliss so warm
You, in your being
Emit an elegant sheen

You, in your presence
Help me forget any absence
In this world!

Shabd-e-Kalam

Yeh joh shabd yahan hum bunte hain
Wahan door kahin kisi kone mein
Inhe lapet kar koi hasta toh koi rota hai
Gustakhi nai kijiyega huzoor, yeh shabd nahi jaan hain
Ink ek ek daane mein hai base kain lamhe
Kuch sehme, kuch darre
Kuch ankahe, kuch kareeb aur kuch gambhir

Yeh joh andikhe dhage hain
Woh dhage nahi kisse hain
Apke, mere, unke,
Zahir hue, chupe kisi kone mein
Zahir hue, tode kaeen rishte

Aj jab beete dinon ki yaad mein
Hum sang baithe hain, inke, apke aur apne sath
Kaeen kisse yaad karte hain
Jab shabdon ki pehchaan na thi
Kuch tohfe samay ke sath diye jate hain
Umar ka kya kahein
Apne mein hi ek paheli hai……

A Trip 'Two- gether'

A Trip ‘Two-gether’

Lets fly like birds dear
Touch the peaks, swim like a fish
Together here
                          Your words make me dance
My eyes travel with yours, far away
                           They see a future
That of trips and hope
Of flying kites and swinging ropes
One smile two love lips
                                                As the smile lits bright
The seed shall shine of music we made
                                Moments intimate

The flowers shall bloom
The spring colourful; we shall
Age, life and hearts alive
And when time comes love
To bid goodbye; I'll kiss thy lips
Touch thy soul life times

A Tell Tale

She asked me,
“You’ve not written for long,
Something about yourself?”
I looked in her eyes,
Which betrayed my self,
A self long lost, still there.

She asked me,
“What have you been up to?
For something seems to have changed”
I looked at her face,
Saw the ruins,
Fresh and old, but the same.

She asked me,
“ Where was your chirpy voice?
And the zest to live your life?”
I looked at the tinkling chime above,
Which spoke for me,
A thousand words.

She stood there,
With a blank face,
And blank me,
The last time I saw her there,
The ripples dried, turned into sand.

As I walked with my naked burns,
Only to be seen by me,
A whisper hushed in my ear,
“Life’s simple, complex you make, Busy bee!”
