A Bitter Sweet Ending........

A BITTER SWEET ENDING

As Rose sat in front of her garden with a cup of coffee and pieces of chocolate walnut cake she had baked a day before, she slowly brought the cup to her lips and took a sip, the coffee was a li’l bitter than the usual one she had, but she didn’t mind much as she had the oh-so- perfect-sugar in the cake she had baked. She looked at the birds flying back to their homes as the sky turned gorgeous orange with strokes of orange merging far away in the light blue sky.

She tried her best to keep herself at bay from the thoughts that came repeatedly like the waves which would hit the rock, only to make an ever lasting impression, and well that had been made, in her mind and on the day when she first started talking to this friend of hers, and now as she recalled how sweetly carved those memories were, ones in which she found her inner self, ones which directed her to places unknown, and ones where even the fights with her friend would turn into poetic smiles, making those anger filled moments quite extraordinary.

Her friend had gone far away, so far, that even if she wanted to call her back; it would perhaps be in vain…
It was not that she
didn’t convey what was going wrong; she did, for she chose to be true to her heart, to her friends and her ‘self’. She got a reply from her friend as well, but she thought to herself “Were the words written and exchanged fake??”

No matter how hard she tried, but she couldn’t help herself from questioning the ‘authenticity’ of those moments, which were now left as memories, like the salt crystals which were left behind as she had dried them in her middle school , what they called crystallization. She had a weak smile on her face, which contrasted the beauty of the nature in the late evening sky. She thought to herself “Perhaps at this very moment all my life is like those salt crystals, beautiful at the outside, but salty from within, so salty that one would refrain from tasting them”.

The cake she had kept in the bowl accompanying the coffee mug was untouched. There were days when she would simply close her eyes and enjoy every bite of that sinful cake of hers. But today was just another day, may be a ‘crystal’ one…..

There was no way she could change things now, for she didn’t wish to, it had happened before and this time again, that a relation which seemed to blossoming, died in between like a flower with a short life span, and no wonder just like a flower it had been pretty lively and fresh for the time it was there to stay.

Yes, the crystals were salty, and yes they could not be tasted, yet she seemed to have tasted them many a times in life. It was not that she was immune to it, for every time that flower of friendship died without any notice, it hurt, yet she thought of carrying on, for tie was a great healer, she thought.

As the sky began to turn black blue, she picked up the tray and went inside, and listened to some music, and sighed cause words always brought back some memories……..that which were sweet, and now added with a dash of bitterness……
